Vision

As the recipient of the title Mister Phoenix Pride, the winner will become the face of Phoenix Pride during their reign. It is the duty of Mister Phoenix Pride to promote pride in our community, state and country; portraying role model qualities with integrity, dignity and respect at all times.

Judging Categories


Evening Wear/Gown

  •  Evening wear should be a suit or tuxedo style and may be of any color or fitting.   Evening gown must be full length and may be of any color or style.
  • Evening Wear: Contestants will be judged based on the suitability of the evening wear for the contestant, style, ability to move in the evening wear, and contestant’s confidence. Evening Gown: Contestants will be judged based on the suitability of the gown for the contestant, style, flow of  the gown during modeling, contestant’s poise and ability to move in an evening gown.
  • Preferably NO JEANS for Evening Wear. 
  •  Contestants will also be judged according to hair and make-up in relationship, and all accessories appropriateness for the attire.
  • Contestants will have up to 1 minute to model.



On Stage Question

  •  Judging will be based on content, confidence and speaking ability.



Talent


  • Talent can be up to 7 minutes in length, with 3 minutes provided for set-up and 3 minutes provided for tear-down of props/sets.
  • Live animals, use of pyrotechnics, confetti, glitter, excessive water or any material that can cause damage to the venue or poses a safety threat to other contestants are not permitted.
  • Contestants may use back up dancers and/or extras in their talent number however, may not exceed more than 10 additional persons on stage during their talent performance.
  • All props for the talent portion of the prelim must fit through a regular sized door.
  • Judging will be based on the entertainment value, costuming related to song choice, appearance, lip-syncing ability, and quality of stage movement or choreography (as applicable). Contestants should perform to the audience and not only the judges.

Contestants must be at least 21 years of age and be able to present valid identification upon request, and must also be a resident of the state of Arizona. If a contestant comes from Tucson or another outlying area from Phoenix, they must be able to meet all duties of the title that they are competing for.


The Miss Phoenix Pride contestants may be female impersonators or biological females. Any former Miss Phoenix Pride is welcome to compete again 12 months after their step down. The Mister Phoenix Pride contestants may be male impersonators or biological males.


The possession, use or dispensing of illegal drugs, including, but not limited to marijuana, will not be tolerated while a contestant is participating in the Mister Phoenix Pride preliminary competitions. Any contestant found using an illegal substance will be immediately disqualified.


Any contestant or contestant’s dancer(s), helper(s), etc. who are caught stealing or tampering with another contestant’s property will be immediately disqualified and removed from the location and competition.

The Mister Phoenix Pride title is a community title and therefore the title holder is viewed as a community leader within the Phoenix LGBTQ community. Show content cannot include references to drugs, discrimination or profanities. Additionally, the use of confetti, live animals, fire, glitter, liquid and all other products that could cause an excessive mess and/or safety hazard is prohibited.


Contestants must remain professional and respectful to Competition Managers, Bar Owners, other contestants and community members at all times. Gossip, slander, backbiting, sabotage, threats and/or any other behavior deemed unprofessional or inappropriate by the Bar Owners/Managers will be grounds for disqualification and/or loss of prelim title.


Former Mister Phoenix Pride title holders are eligible to participate in the Mister Phoenix Pride competition with the exception of the reigning Mister Phoenix Pride.


The host Bar/Organization reserves the right to deny any contestant entrance into their title preliminary.


Phoenix Pride reserves the right to deny any prelim title holders from competing in the Mister Phoenix Pride competition.


Duties and Responsibilities upon receiving a Prelim Title - all prelim contestants should read before competing in a prelim:


Upon receiving a prelim title, contestants are invited to compete in the Mister Phoenix Pride competition. In the event the prelim title holder is unwilling or unable to participate in the Mister Phoenix Pride competition, the prelim’s bar owner/organization may crown and send their
respective first alternate.


A Mandatory Contestant Meeting will be held with the date to be announced after the final preliminary). Rehearsal dates for learning the opening numbers for the finals competition will be provided at this meeting along with a final rehearsal date at the selected final venue.


In order for a prelim title holder to be entered into the Mister Phoenix Pride competition, they must complete and submit a Mister Phoenix Pride Contestant Application prior to the deadline.


All contestants of the Mister Phoenix Pride competition are required to submit an electronic high resolution photo and bio along with their application. These items will be posted on the Phoenix Pride website, used in the Phoenix Pride Newsletter and in the event program. A contestant’s
application will not be considered complete without this information. This information must be received by the Mandatory Contestant Meeting (TBA). If it is not received by the deadline, administrative points will be deducted from the contestant’s final score.


Should the contestant continue and win the title of Mister Phoenix Pride, the contestant has the right to retain his prelim title if he and the bar are in agreement. The dual title holder must hold the Mister Phoenix Pride title as his priority.


Prelim title holders must remain professional and respectful to Competition Managers, Bar Owners, other contestants and community members at all times. Gossip, slander, backbiting, sabotage, threats and/or any other behavior deemed unprofessional or inappropriate by the Competition Manager, Bar Owner/Manager or Phoenix Pride Executive Director can be grounds for disqualification and/or loss of prelim title.


Prelim title holders will be allowed to begin fundraising for the Phoenix Pride Scholarship Program upon winning their prelim title. Prelim title holders will have until check-in for the 2019 Miss & Mister Phoenix Pride Pageant  to turn in fundraising dollars to Phoenix Pride
for calculation. All fundraising dollars raised for the Phoenix Pride Scholarship Program will count towards the fundraising category of their score.
